-HF2S Holdsworth Spalted Maple--SOLD

Here is my Carvin Custom Shop "Holdsworth" HF2S guitar. Serial #106977

This guitar is in "Near Mint" condition, and has always been kept in a clean, dry, smoke-free, pet-free studio environment.  Never gigged, and always kept in a dry location.

This is one of my favorite guitars, and the only reason it is for sale is because I have 2 of these models.

The action is very smooth, the neck and intonation are perfect and the body is spalted maple is just simply amazing.

This guitar does it all– Carvin humbuckers with both piezo and 13 pin output

The spalted maple on this guitar is unbelievable.

I bought this guitar direct from Carvin in 2010. As you may know, Carvin has a direct purchase model from their custom shop: you tell them what you want, and in 8 weeks or so you will have your guitar.

Carvin is pleased to expand our popular lineup of MIDI synth access guitars with the introduction of the Alan Holdsworth Signature Series HF2S Fatboy. The HF2S is based on the HF2 Fatboy, with the addition of the acclaimed Graph Tech MIDI synth access electronics as used in the SH575, SH65, SH275 and NS1. This new model allows the synth guitar enthusiasist to choose an alternative design that has been proven for years with Allan Holdsworth and hundreds of HF2 players. Simply connect a guitar synth of your choice and you'll be adding orchestras, flutes and virtually any instrument sound to your electric guitar tone. This unique design gives you acoustic, electric and synth capabilities all in one instrument! Like the HF2, the HF2S is made in the USA, and loaded with features generally only found in boutique instruments. However, because we sell direct to you, you don't have to pay a boutique price. You can choose from hundreds of available Custom Shop options to built your HF2S exactly the way you want it, and be the proud owner of an instrument that will last you a lifetime.

The HF2S is unique among contemporary 6-string synth-access guitars. It has a 2 3/8" thick semi-hollow body made from alder, which is a high-quality tone wood used by many manufacturers because of it's relative light weight and and fine resonating tone. Alder has a subtle and attractive grain that looks great in any of Carvin's many finishes, including solid colors, translucent finishes and our new metallic solid finishes. The HF2S has a unique twin-beam internal suspesion that allows the top and back to resonate freely, producing a sweet, semi-hollow tone. Optional body woods such as mahogany, walnut and koa are available, all of which have their own tonal characteristics. The standard top and back wood is birch, or you can add premium top woods, such as AAAA flamed maple, AAAA quilted maple, flamed koa, and California Claro walnut. All of Carvin's neck and fingerboard woods undergo a long conditioning process in our de-humidification chambers to remove any stress in the wood and prevent future warping or twisting, and our woods are carefully hand-selected and inspected to ensure your new HF2S will be free of natural defects.

The HF2 features a standard 25.5" scale ebony fingerboard with white pearl dot inlays, and a 12" radius with 24 jumbo nickel frets. You can choose from a wide assortment of fingerboard options, including rosewood, maple or birdseye maple fingerboards and dot or block inlays in mother-of-pearl or genuine abalone. Carvin also offers a number of fretwire options, including low-wide and stainless steel. Carvin's "Rapid Play" low action neck assures effortless playability throughout the entire fingerboard, while the lower cutaway and set-in neck heel allows easy access all the way up to the 24th fret. The fully-adjustable dual action truss rod allows you to set the action exactly the way you want it.

The HF2S comes equipped with our Holdswoth H22 humbucking pickups. Carvin uses vintage plain enamel magnet wire and seasoned Alnico-5 magnets to achieve Allan's tone. Each coil has 11 polepieces, all of which are fully adjustable to customize individual string volumes. The H22N neck pickup is rated at 7.3k ohms, and produces fantastic singing characteristics, while the bridge position H22T, rated at 8.6k ohms, produces smooth sustain. Standard pickup colors are black coils and bezels, but any combintation of black and cream coils and bezels or white coils and black bezels can be chosen. Electronics consist of a master volume and tone control, with a 3-way pickup selector located on the upper bout. The push-pull tone control doubles as a coil splitter, allowing dual to single coil operation on the S22 pickups. The Graphtech Synth Access Module consists of stacked concentric volume for MIDI & piezo, stacked concentric mid cut/boost and mid sweep, and stacked concentric bass & treble cut/boost. A mini-switch allows scrolling through MIDI patches. Outputs include dual 1/4" jacks (one for humbuckers, one for piezo) and a 13-pin Hexaphonic MIDI-compatible output, which is compatible with controllers such as the Roland GR33™, VG88™ and VBass™, Roland GI-10™, Axon 100™ and others.
