Carvin Guitars‎ > ‎

I'm sorry, this guitar is not for sale.

Here is my Carvin Custom Shop C66 guitar. Serial #68686.

This guitar is in "Near Mint" condition, and has always been kept in a clean, dry, smoke-free pet-free studio enviromnent.

The first thing I have to mention about this guitar is the burl body. It is amazing. The next thing I would like to mention about this guitar is it's range of tones. Using the blending of the piezo, it has such a diverse range of sounds using all the different combintations of pickup settings.

The tung oiled neck is also one of the best features of the guitar.  It is so smooth and just plays like butter. This guitar has 2 outputs, Electric and Piezo, but the Piezo tone can be blended in cleanly giving you a sharper, more crispy attack.

As you may know, Carvin has a direct purchase model from their custom shop: you tell them what you want, and in 8 weeks or so you will have your guitar.

Carvin debuted the Contour 66 in 2003, in response to player's requests for an instrument that combined the features of our bolt-neck and neck-through models. The result is a bolt-neck instrument with premium features and a comfortable profile that plays great and sounds wonderful. Unlike many instruments today, the C66 is made right here in the USA, not overseas. The C66 is loaded with features generally only found in boutique instruments, but because we sell direct to you, you don't have to pay a boutique price. And with hundreds of available options, you can build your C66 exactly the way you want it, and be the proud owner of an instrument that will last you a lifetime.

he C66 has a body made from premium-grade alder, which is a high-quality tone wood used by many manufacturers because of it's relative light weight and and fine resonating tone. Alder has a subtle and attractive grain that looks great in any of Carvin's many finishes, including solid colors, translucent finishes and our new metallic solid finishes. Although alder is the standard wood, optional woods such as swamp ash, maple, mahogany, walnut and koa are available, all of which have their own tonal characteristics. An AAAA flamed maple top with natural body binding is standard, or you can upgrade to an AAAA quilted maple top or flamed koa top. All of Carvin's neck and fingerboard woods undergo a long conditioning process in our de-humidification chambers to remove any stress in the wood and prevent future warping or twisting, and our woods are carefully hand-selected and inspected to ensure your new C66 will be free of natural defects. The body of the C66 is specifically contoured on the back for optimal playing comfort, whether sitting or standing. You'll appreciate it's ergonomic design as much as it's premium features and great looks.

The neck of the C66 is made from eastern hard rock maple with a tung oil finish for smooth, fast playing. If you like, you can choose from any of Carvin's optional woods for the neck, such as koa or mahogany. Our tilt-back headstock eliminates the need for a string tree, and creates crisp open notes. The headstock matches the body, topped in AAAA flamed maple. You can also choose AAAA quilted maple, flamed koa or any of our other exotic woods to match your top wood. A 6-inline headstock is standard, but you can also choose from a CT-style, V-style, traditional 3 X 3, pointed angled, or reverse headstock. Carvin's graphite-teflon nut is precision-cut, and allows the strings to move smoothly without binding.

The C66 features a standard 25.5" scale ebony fingerboard with white pearl dot inlays, a 12" radius and 22 medium-jumbo nickel frets. You can choose from a wide assortment of fingerboard options, including rosewood, maple or birdseye maple fingerboards; dot or block inlays in mother-of-pearl or genuine abalone; and fingerboard radii of 10" or 14". Carvin also offers a number of fretwire options, including jumbo, low-wide and stainless steel. Carvin's "Rapid Play" low action neck assures effortless playability throughout the entire fingerboard, while the deep lower cutaway and minimal neck heel allows easy access all the way up to the 22nd fret. The fully-adjustable dual action truss rod allows you to set the action exactly the way you want it. Our fully-computerized CNC machinery guarantees a neck pocket which the bolt-on neck will fit perfectly in to, increasing stability and sustain.

The C66 is equipped with a pair of direct-mount classic C22 humbuckers. All Carvin humbuckers and single coil pickups have 11 polepieces per coil, which eliminates dropoff when bending strings. You can substitute any of Carvin's M22 or H22 Series humbuckers. You can also add a center AP11 single-coil pickup or center TBH60 twinblade humbucking pickup. The TBH60 twinblades are physically the same size as the AP11s, with high output for punchy clean tones or hot overdriven leads. We also offer an "HSS" pickup configuration, which consists of a C22B bridge humbucker and two AP11 single coil pickups in the center and neck positions. Controls consist of a master volume and tone control with a 5-way pickup selector. You can upgrade your C66 to active electronics, which consists of master volume, tone, and active cut/boost for bass & treble, and phase switching in addition to the dual-to-single coil switching for each pickup. For the ultimate in flexibility, add the Fishman piezo acoustic bridge with the active upgrade. The active upgrade with piezo bridge can also be ordered with the Wilkinson tremolo.
